About Me
Hey there! Welcome to my blog, where I'm bringing it back to basics – documenting the tech adventures I've been on, sharing ideas, and even throwing in the occasional opinion or two. The main goal here is to offer up some tidbits that you might find intriguing or, who knows, even helpful. At the very least, it'll serve as my personal tech journal, so when I'm scratching my head six months from now, I can revisit these pages to figure out all those command-line incantations I used to set things up or save the day.
My journey through the tech world has been nothing short of a wild ride. It all started back in the day when long-distance computer networking meant BITNET, and I was utterly fascinated by the notion of sending an electronic message from my college computer to a buddy a few states away – no snail mail required, just pure tech wizardry! Fast forward a bit, and I got myself a dial-up account from a local ISP, complete with my very own static IP address and hostname – and that's when the real fun kicked off.
Teaching myself Linux was my next big adventure, building upon the basic Unix knowledge I picked up in college. I remember snagging a CD-ROM with a book on Slackware from a nearby computer store – good times! A couple of years later, I decided to dive headfirst into the ISP game and opted for FreeBSD over Linux. Why? Well, partly because of its stellar security and speed, but mostly because it played nice with my hardware and had a painless installation process. At that point, Linux was still a bit of a work in progress when it came to installation – not to mention the kernel and drivers were still in their growing pains phase.
Over the years, I've worn many hats – from being the tech guru at a groundbreaking offset printing company that embraced electronic pre-press in the 1990s to running my very own ISP and hopping between roles at a couple of telecom giants. But now, I'm keeping busy in an IT leadership role at a healthcare company. And let me tell you, I haven't lost my touch when it comes to getting my hands dirty with tech and diving deep into the world of data security. I'm still juggling personal tech projects and enjoying some good ol' tech talk with my awesome teams. So stick around; we've got quite the journey ahead!
